Born in Montreal in 1990, Canadian cellist
GENEVIEVE GUIMOND began her cello studies at the age of five. She made her orchestral debut at the age of 10 as soloist with I Musici de Montreal under the direction of Yuli Turovsky, who she continued her cello studies with till 2007. Genevieve has also had lessons with Laurence
Lesser, Lluis Claret, Vagram Saradjan, Andres
Diaz and Hans Jorgen Jensen. In addition, she has performed in master classes for Mischa Maisky and Lynn Harrell.
Genevieve has won many top prizes in music competitions, including first prize at the Canadian Music Competition 2005, and first prize (Strings) at the 2007 National Music Festival. In 2006, she was also the youngest semi-finalist at the Gaspar Cassado International Cello Competition. Genevieve has performed as soloist and chamber musician in Canada, and for international audiences in Italy, Greece, Spain, China and Japan.
In 2006 she was featured as the principal character and cellist for an award winning short film directed by Alex Franchi. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, and screened at numerous other festivals, including Cannes.
Currently, Genevieve is a scholarship student of Richard Aaron at The Juilliard School in NYC. She plays an 1815 Giovanni Baptista Ceruti cello and Lamy bow, on loan from the Canimex Foundation.
